QUIT SMOKING

STOP SMOKING

SMOKING CESSATION

DON’T SMOKE

Mark Twain once said, “To cease smoking is the easiest thing I ever did, I ought to know because I’ve done it a thousand times”.

It may be easy for smokers to stop smoking, but what is not so easy for most smokers is to stay stopped. Most smokers would prefer to be nonsmokers. we also know that most smokers have tried at least once to give up the habit.

Why is it so difficult for so many smokers to stop smoking and to stay stopped?

One of my favourite cartoonists is Gary Larson. The very first cartoon in his “Far Side” desk calendar back in 2001 depicts “The real reasons dinosaurs became extinct”.

It shows two dinosaurs smoking cigarettes, with one of them furtively looking around as it lights up for a third dinosaur.

Like Larson’s approach to just about everything, try to keep your approach to smoking cessation fun.

I have published several Web Sites related to tobacco use. (And YES, I was a former smoker!)

And, as a former smoker I am very aware that “nagging” does not work. In fact it is generally counterproductive. A smoker has got to want to stop smoking for him or her self!

“Staying Stopped” provides strategies for smokers who want to quit. It is also very useful for Health Professionals who work with smokers who would prefer to be nonsmokers. Its URL is:

“Cease Smoking” has a heap of articles written for smokers who want to quit. Its URL is:

Do you know of anyone who has successfully quit? I am sure that you do. In Australia there are now more ex-smokers than there are smokers. If you personally have a quitting success story that you would like to share, then I would like to publish it. Please send it to me:

stories@mystopsmoking.net

Include photographs if you wish and I will publish it on “My Stop Smoking” Web Site.

People trying to quit are often motivated by hearing about people who have successfully done so.

“Cease Puffing” is a site that will have articles of interest with regard to the Health Issues related to tobacco use. Its URL is:
